Please include three brief (one-to-two page) essays, on the following topics:
1a. (Chiapas applicants only) A summary of your understanding of the political situation in Chiapas, your reasons for wanting to work there.
1b. (Oaxaca applicants only) A summary of your understanding of the political situation in Oaxaca, your reasons for wanting to work there.
2. Please describe specific skills or experience you have that might be of use in your volunteer work (for instance, computer programming or puppet making or electrical engineering) and ideas about organizations or projects you would be interested in working with or on.
3. A discussion of the politics of doing solidarity work abroad. Please think about what it means to be someone from the first world doing work in developing countries, what we can do to maintain accountable relationships with the people we work with, and how you plan to bring your experience in Chiapas (or Oaxaca) back to your community at home, and any other issues that may arise for you related to this kind of volunteer work.
