The Other Campaign
News and analysis following the development of the Zapatista's "The Other Campaign," as described in the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle. Announced in July of 2005, it's an effort to mobilize a non-electoral social movement of the left, "from below", in Mexico and beyond. The Other Campaign tour began in San Cristobal de las Casas on January 1st, 2006, led by Subcommandante Marcos, who took on the new name "Delegation Zero."

With the modification of article 27 of the constitution by the neoliberal governments, the original people of these lands were condemned to disappear. In 2001 the House of Representatives, Senate, and the Federal Supreme Court refused to recognize the San Andrés Accords, leaving indigenous people with no choice but to exercise their autonomy and their collective rights, including their right to land and territory, by the following: the recuperation of lands that have historically been worked collectively and that represent the seat of mayan culture today.
